Care & Use of your Jewelry

Taking care of your jewelry is very important but also very easy to do.   Here are some simple steps to ensure you have a beautiful piece that lasts for years to come.

About Your Jewelry:

-The pieces I have created here for you are made with a wide variety of components and materials including but not limited to:  glass beads, silver and gold-plated beads and findings, sterling silver & gold filled beads and findings, pewter beads and findings, copper and brass beads, findings and components.  I also use natural materials including gemstones, pearls, shells, wood, nuts and seeds, leather, suede products, etc.  Some materials may contain trace amounts of lead, (eg. Swarovski uses trace amounts of lead in their crystals which provides the world famous brilliant refractions in their beads and pendants), vintage beads, components and pendants, some metal clasps and pendants, etc.)  as well as glue, and glazing materials.  Pieces made with gemstones, semi-precious stones, freshwater and cultured pearls are purchased from various reputable suppliers who follow the strict guidelines put forth by the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA).

Use of Your Jewelry:

--Everyone's body is different and materials that can be worn by hundreds of people may present a problem for just one.  If you experience any allergic or adverse reaction to wearing these jewelry pieces, remove the jewelry immediately and seek medical attention.

--Do not place jewelry in your mouth or ingest any materials on your jewelry piece.

-- ALL of the pieces in this store are created to be worn by adults, not children.  Do not allow children put these items in their mouths as they may present a choking hazard or lead ingestion.

--Do not wear your jewelry to bed as it may damage the piece and present a choking hazard or other injury.

--Pieces created with magnetic hematite or hematine (man-made hematite) beads or magnetic clasps SHOULD NOT be worn by anyone wearing a pacemaker.

-- Please don’t swim, bathe, wash dishes, etc. in your jewelry. Salt, chemicals and other minerals could corrode  the stringing materials used to create your jewelry piece, reducing the life span of the jewelry.

--Do not use jewelry cleaners to clean your jewelry. Use a soft jewelry cloth or a piece of damp q-tip to lightly dust your pieces. For pieces with silver (eg. little silver beads or clasps) use a silver jewelry cloth to remove tarnish.

-- Bracelets, necklaces and drop earrings that are strung on beading wire can kink if they are not put away properly.  Lay them out on a flat surface or your jewelbox or hang them up so they are not sitting in a lump.  If you are low on space, you can coil them loosely, following the natural way the piece will form the circular shape.  Don't fold or force a bend in the piece.  Hand woven beaded pieces are a little more flexible but still should be laid out neatly or hung up in order to preserve their shape.

--Some pieces are made with glass beads that may have a light dust.   This is normal, the end process of glass bead making.  The dust is actually a material used to make sliding the finished beads off of the strand easier to do after firing.  I pre-soak and wash the beads before stringing but sometimes there is still residual “kiln dust” . Use a damp q-tip to lightly dust the pieces.
